Visit Shipton Gorge… and you’ll discover a delightful and beautiful Dorset village, easily missed, against a backdrop of rolling hills and farmland and great for exploring the footpaths and bridleways. It’s a great little village when you’re just venturing inland.
Shipton Gorge is approximately 2 miles from the coast and the delightful village of Burton Bradstock, and only 3 miles from idyllic old market town of Bridport.

Exploring… the village is easy! Divided into the old in the lower part and the new above, Shipton Gorge is set in some of the most beautiful and rural Dorset countryside around. Unfortunately the farms have long since disappeared but the farmland remains providing outstanding countryside views.

Take a walk… to the prominent point of the village, and which can be seen for miles around at approximately 180m, to the iconic landmark and possibly ancient village of Shipton Hill. Just below is also Hammiton Hill at approximately 121m. There are footpaths leading to these hills so go exploring and enjoy the views!

Walking is fun… and there are idyllic and peaceful walks along footpaths, bridleways and quiet lanes to discover, away from the hustle and bustle of life. Explore the idyllic and part wooded walks from Shipton to Walditch and you’ll see some of the most amazing views on the way. You certainly won’t be disappointed!

Love churches… then perched higher up a hill, so typical of traditional English churches, in the old part of the village is the delightful village church of St Martin and has an early 15th century tower. Walk around the church and discover some of the most outstanding and stunning views of the village as well as around the area.
Pop in to… The New Inn, a delightful community village pub, which has been refurbished recently, where there’s always a warm welcome on arrival at a typical Dorset village inn.
Just below the New Inn and around the corner there’s a wonderful playground for kids to play in a safe surrounding.
Idyllic and peaceful walks along footpaths, bridleways and quiet lanes!

Shipton Gorge with amazing views is a delightful countryside village!
